Apple Intelligence

On-device AI health coach

A coach you can ask about your own data, like "Why is my recovery low?" or "What's my biggest recovery lever?". It runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device language model, so your health data never reaches a server.

Pulse Coach coach chat answering that meditation is the user's biggest recovery lever while alcohol, social events, stress and late meals reduce it

Your daily briefing

Every morning the coach writes a short briefing: a headline, one action and the reason behind it. The training call (push, train easy, recover or rest) always comes from your recovery score, so the AI can’t contradict your numbers.

Ask anything

With Pulse Pro you can ask the coach anything about your data. On the free plan, tap suggested questions:

  • What’s my biggest recovery lever?
  • Why is my recovery lower today?
  • How did last week compare?
  • Should I train hard today?

Answers use your own scores, baselines, workouts and journal impacts, rounded and summarised so they fit the on-device model.

Why on-device matters

Cloud AI coaches send your health history to a server for every question, and often cap how many questions you can ask because each one costs money. Pulse Coach’s coach runs on your iPhone’s Neural Engine, so there’s no usage cap, it works offline, and there’s no copy of your data anywhere else.

Your language

The coach answers in your iPhone’s language when Apple Intelligence supports it. When it doesn’t, the rule-based coach takes over, fully translated.

Frequently asked questions

Which iPhones support the AI coach?

iPhones that support Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro and later) with Apple Intelligence turned on and the model downloaded. Other iPhones get the built-in rule-based coach, which gives the same scores and a daily briefing.

Is the AI coach using ChatGPT or a cloud model?

No. Pulse Coach uses Apple's Foundation Models framework, which runs Apple's on-device model. The app makes no network requests for coaching.

Will the coach diagnose me?

No. The coach is instructed never to diagnose, and it suggests talking to a doctor when something looks unusual. It explains wellness numbers; it isn't medical advice.
